HS SCHOOL PRINCIPAL RECRUITMENT 2026 IN ASSAM
Applications are invited from eligible Indian citizens and permanent residents of Assam in prescribed Standard Form of Application for filling up of the vacant posts of Principal of different Provincialised Higher Swcondary Schools of Assam. EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION
Candidates should possess:
- MA / MSc / MCom degree from a UGC recognized university.
- B.T./B.Ed degree from a teacher training institute recognized by NCTE.
- Candidates must have a consistently good academic record.
- In respect of Hindi Teachers having Master Degree qualification , the Hindi Sikshan Parangat & Hindi Sikshan Nishant shall be considered equivalent to B.T./B.Ed.
- Degrees or certificates obtained from institutions located outside Assam that operate study centres within the state without recognition from DEC under UGC shall not be considered valid for employment purposes under the Education Department.
- However, qualifications obtained through recognized distance education institutions and universities like KKHSOU,IGNOU, IDOL under GU & Distance Education under DU approved by the competent authority shall remain acceptable for employment consideration according to existing rules.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must fulfill any of the following experience conditions:
- Minimum 15 years of service as a Post Graduate Teacher in Provincialised Higher Secondary Schools/H.S. & M.P. Schools/Senior Secondary Schools.
- Minimum 5 years of service as Vice-Principal in Provincialised Higher Secondary Schools/H.S. & M.P. Schools.
- Minimum 17 years of teaching experience as a Graduate Teacher in High School/Higher Secondary School/H.S. & M.P. School or a combination of these institutions.
AGE LIMIT
- Candidate age should not exceed 57 years as on 01 January 2026.
OTHER ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS
Candidates should possess:
- Strong leadership qualities
- Administrative ability
- Good communication skills
- Integrity and professional conduct
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- Reservation of vacancies will be implemented according to the prevailing government rules and regulations.
- Only teaching and service experience acquired during the provincialised period of a school will be counted for eligibility purposes. Service rendered before provincialisation shall not be considered.
- Candidates must submit their applications through the proper official channel
- Application should be in prescribed Standard Form of Application
- Graduate Teachers or Demonstrators whose minimum educational qualification is a graduate degree and who possess at least 17 years of teaching experience in the Graduate Scale of Pay while holding a Graduate post in any Provincialised Secondary School shall be eligible to apply for the post of Principal, subject to fulfillment of other prescribed conditions.
- Additional Contractual Teachers who have been regularized through the Special Recruitment Drive conducted in the year 2025 shall also be considered eligible, provided they satisfy all eligibility conditions laid down under the Assam Secondary Education (Provincialised Schools) Service Rules and subsequent amendments.

REVISED GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION OF PRINCIPAL
The Secondary Education Department, Government of Assam, has issued revised guidelines for the selection of Principals in Provincialized Higher Secondary Schools. The guidelines were notified vide Order No. ASE.706/2019/14 dated 22 June 2021 and prescribe a total of 36 marks for evaluating eligible candidates under the Assam Secondary Education (Provincialized Schools) Service Rules, 2018.

1. Leadership Skills (4 Marks)
Marks are awarded based on the HSLC/AHM/HS examination results of the school where the candidate is serving as a teacher. For Graduate Teachers, HSLC Final Examination results are considered, while for Post Graduate Teachers, HS Final Examination results of the school are taken into account.
